RSPB Big Schools’ Birdwatch and Y5 Wildlife Club

On Wednesday, children from Year 3 to Year 6 took part in the RSPB Big Schools’ Birdwatch.  The children saw many more birds than in previous years with our newly installed bird feeder proving a big hit.

On Friday, Year 5 spent time in the wildlife garden undertaking some winter maintenance. They tidied the pond, removing leaves from the netting and set up bird feeders, including a home-made one.  They also cleaned the bird bath and made sure that there was food and water available for any visiting birds.

Mrs Lay and Ms Boulder-Clark came prepared with a bird quiz and so Year 5 also learnt lots of facts about birds and especially birds of prey.  Did you know that birds of prey do not use their beaks to kill their prey, but instead they use their claws and squeeze the breath out of them!
